Press release:
In recognition of National Children’s Mental Health Day, Errata Gallery is partnering with the Head Start program to bring you a unique collaborative art event. Featuring collaborations with over 40 preschool aged children, and local artist Kendra Binney, the event will showcase a view of the sky, and all the shapes that it holds, through the eyes of a child. Using an innovative form of collaboration, Kendra encorporates the students’ creative, often silly and surprisingly complex characters into her own recognizably stylized worlds. Mounted on wood, and covered in resin. The finished pieces are intricate mixes of childhood visions and storytelling, and Kendra’s sweet unsettling landscapes.
Kendra’s work has been shown and sold around the world, as well as published in various books and publications. Her works convey detailed depictions of nature, and the vulnerable qualities of it’s sad eyed inhabitants. Through scenes of dripping landscapes and insecure displaced characters, she illustrates a world draped in memories, remorse, and fragile realities. Seen through pastel washes and shiny candy coatings of resins, they evoke both contempt and hope. At once gentle and cruel, sweet and unsettling, they resonate a playful yet haunted quality. Along with her work as a full time artist, Kendra works frequently with children; as a resident artist in a private preschool, and a part time mentor and tutor for elementary school children and homeless youth.
National Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day is a day to promote positive youth development, resilience, and recovery for children with mental health needs. The goal is to raise awareness of effective programs for children’s mental health needs, demonstrate how children’s mental health initiatives promote positive youth development, recovery, and resilience; and show how children with mental health needs can thrive in their communities.
Clackamas County Childrens Commission Head Start is a non-profit organization that serves 3 and 4 year-old children of low-income families residing in Clackamas County. Head start does not charge any fees. They provide quality pre-school education, nutritious meals, regular health screenings, mental health staff and support, and family services and resources.
All work from the show is available for sale starting at just $30! There will also be a silent auction, raffle, and other gift items available for purchase. Wine and light snacks served.
100% of proceeds from this event will go to Clackamas County Children’s Commission Head Start. Funds will be used to purchase much needed support play therapy services and supplies for low income preschoolers in the program.
“Sky Soup” will remain open until May 28th 2010.

Progress
March 22, 2010
Aside from a short break to enjoy the gorgeous day outside saturday afternoon, most of the weekend was spent in the gallery framing up a new wall, putting up sheetrock, and attempting to fill the gaps and give the wall a nice plastered texture. At the moment the entire gallery is covered in joint compound dust. It’s got a little ways to go, but definitely on it’s way! Really looking forwards to unveiling all the improvements for the April opening.

Coming in April: ”Foolish Care” New works by Jennifer Mercede
We are pleased to present for our April exhibition the spontaneously colorful works of painter Jennifer Mercede. A small snapshot of her career as a painter, muralist, and illustrator, “Foolish Care” is an insight into the evolutution of Jennifer’s art. Incorporating new techniques, colors, and mediums, the work showcases her progression as an artist and the haphazard perfection of her work. The pieces are new and different, but always spontaneous, cheerful, and honest.
Jennifer will be featured on OPB’s “Art Beat” this month! The episode airs March 24th. Get a glimpse of her process, style, and technique. Then come see some of her playful works in person.
Opening reception: First Thursday, April 1st. 6 – 10 pm

Gallery Renovations… GO!
March 10, 2010
The last day to see work from the “Influence” show is tomorrow, 3/11. We’ll be spending the rest of March doing some much needed renovations to the space – building walls, expanding the upstairs, and adding some better lighting.
We’re also working on finalizing the lineup for the rest of the year. We’ll have some amazing artists from all over the world showing with us, and are really excited about what the rest of the year has in store. We’ll be sure to post all the details shortly!
The gallery will reopen for the first thursday artwalk on April 1st with the spontaneously colorful works of Jennifer Mercede. More information coming soon.
“Influence” gallery photos
March 6, 2010
Still working on posting the photos for all the different stages of progress on these, but here’s a sampling of the work from the “Influence” show. In total the work featured collaborations with over 60 artists! We think that’s pretty great considering the short time constraint of just 1 month. You can see more information about the show idea here. There was a wonderful turnout for the opening and quite a few sales. Thanks to everyone who got involved. Stay tuned for information on a bigger and better chain letter show in the near future.
